Boomer
principles

Disclosure

Transacting horses can be a complicated and involved process, but Boomer Bloodstock is committed to the client experience and result. We have important key principles that guide our processes, and these principles have remained critical to our success since Boomer Bloodstock was established in 2008.

We are anchored by honesty and integrity. Since the very beginning of Boomer Bloodstock, we have applied correct conduct to every business transaction to build both trust and result. Craig provides all clients full disclosure, which includes particulars of commission rates, parties involved and selection processes. Boomer Bloodstock favours business with equally minded farms, vendors and agents who similarly value these principles.

In rare, unavoidable circumstances where multiple Boomer Bloodstock clients are represented in a transaction, full disclosure is offered to all parties involved to facilitate an open and honest decision process, and a successful result.

Transparency

No conflict of interest

When transacting business, Boomer Bloodstock guarantees there will be no conflict of interest. Craig and McCall Rounsefell have declined all investment in trading bloodstock, which includes nil ownership in foals, weanlings, yearlings and broodmares. The only current ownership Craig & McCall hold is in racehorses. The mantra is simple; we do not want to compete with our clients.

Craig is one of the few bloodstock agents taking this stance, and it is a significant point of difference when clients select Boomer Bloodstock for their bloodstock needs. At all times, trust and transparency will be critical between agency and client.

Equally, Craig will continue to disclose retainer agreements held by Boomer Bloodstock. Currently these include:

  • The Hong Kong Jockey Club: Southern Hemisphere yearling buyer.
  • Musk Creek Farm: Independent consultant.

Research
& Analysis

Boomer Bloodstock guarantees that before any decisions are made in circumstances of private purchase, public auction, recommendation or any of the services professionally offered to clients, significant research is undertaken by us. This includes access to and analysis of significant statistical and historical data.

Research and analysis are the homework of a transaction, and Boomer Bloodstock believes that adding data to the weight of a decision greatly enhances the result. Craig has a vast database of information which is always considered as well as all the other data available before a decision is made to minimize the risk and increases the client’s chance of success.

Signatory of FBAA
code of conduct

Boomer Bloodstock’s commitment to integrity is central to its business model, which is why Craig has been a member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) since 2011.

Through 2020 he led a review into the FBAA’s Code of Ethics, which eventuated in the biggest constitutional change in the organisation’s history to establish a world best practice standard for bloodstock agents. It coincided with Craig’s appointment to the position of FBAA President.

“A high level of accountability is what is rightfully expected of our industry. To have every member held to an enforceable high standard will give clients confidence when they are engaging with an FBAA agent.”

The FBAA was established in 1988 with the aim of maintaining, improving and developing the standards, status and services of bloodstock agents, and to present and promote the views of its members.

The FBAA has been an important addition to the bloodstock climate since its inception, but it will become significantly more important going forward as the industry manages new standards and expectations in integrity and publicity. Boomer Bloodstock is proud to operate as a member of the FBAA.

Consultancy
From time to time, owners enjoy the benefits that come from independent and professional bloodstock advice. Here at Boomer Bloodstock, we offer general services that will assess both your stock and the decisions you make with them. It could be to save money or save time, or just to get reassurance that you are not making any mistakes. We provide professional advice with a follow-up written report that can include health and well-being checks if required. This service can provide important peace of mind to new and seasoned owners alike. This is a normal practice in so many other codes of business where qualified and experienced third-party advice is sought and used. We feel it is a very important addition to the services we offer here at Boomer Bloodstock.   Fee: $350/hour (ex GST)
Auction Representation
Auctions are among the busiest and most complicated environments in the bloodstock industry and, here at Boomer Bloodstock, we can make your sale-ring experience a very good one. On your behalf, we will handle the purchase of a whole horse or part of a horse, and we will do all the required background research and inspections to maximize chances of success. The auction process can be daunting and scary, but Boomer Bloodstock, via expert advice, can completely renovate the client experience. Craig generally attends every major yearling sale on the international calendar, including those in Australia, Europe and North America, inspecting over 6000 yearlings every year around the world. Combined with an extensive database, Boomer Bloodstock uses detailed statistical analysis. This places the agency at a distinct advantage over clients attempting to achieve the same results by themselves. Fee: 5% commission (ex GST) on sale price

Private Purchases
Many bloodstock transactions around the world occur outside of the auction ring and, if you would prefer to buy privately, we can facilitate this for you. Boomer Bloodstock offers a private purchase service where we can source a horse based on a profile, or accept a client suggestion on a particular horse, and manage the due diligence through the process. This is assisted by our vast network of global thoroughbred contacts. Private purchases include any type of bloodstock transaction by private treaty, including foals, breeding stock or racehorses. This often presents a valuable opportunity for a client to purchase a horse that may not have presented in an auction ring. We will handle the sourcing of that horse, the negotiation of sale and the execution. The private purchase service has a distinct advantage when it comes to the buying experience. At auction, a buyer has a very limited time to make decisions, often only a few minutes while the horse is in the ring. It can be a stressful experience. Private treaty allows the buyer to control the price via negotiation, and therefore make careful decisions. Boomer Bloodstock can facilitate every aspect of a private treaty sale. Fee: 5% commission (ex GST) on sale price

Mating Advice
Mating advice is the business of advising clients on which stallions to use with their mares, and the projected best possible outcomes of such unions. Mare owners will often come to Boomer Bloodstock looking for advice on seasonal matings. We will do an analysis of the client’s mare and apply our industry knowledge based on statistics, current performance, physical attributes and historical data. Our aim is to arrive at possible stallion options for the client based on their goals and budget, and then negotiate with the farms to get the best price and terms for the client. Boomer Bloodstock is a FBAA member, thus this service comes at no cost to the mare owner as the stallion owner will pay Boomer Bloodstock a 5% commission once the service fee has been paid. This has been a historically successful service for us. Craig, acting on behalf of client Daandine Stud, advised and negotiated the mating between Written Tycoon and Kitalpha that resulted in the 2016 Golden Slipper winner and now promising stallion Capitalist. Fee: no fee payable by mare owner
Valuations
Bloodstock ownership can be unpredictable. Situations can arise that include ownership disputes, deceased estates or divorce settlements, and an independent valuation of bloodstock can be often required. We can help. Boomer Bloodstock offers a complete valuation service where we will assess your horse’s value in the current bloodstock market and provide you with a written report that can then be relied upon.   Fee: $300 (ex GST) per desktop report.

Portfolio Management
Here at Boomer Bloodstock, we can manage your entire bloodstock portfolio from start to finish. If you are time poor, or prefer your valuable equine assets to be managed entirely by a team with valuable experience, vast knowledge and global contacts, we can do it all. This service involves us taking over the entire process of day-to-day management. It is the whole kit and kaboodle - servicing those who may be too busy in other lines of business to handle it themselves, or to offer the peace of mind that comes from having the portfolio in professional and dedicated hands. Either way, the client receives continuous condensed reports from us about their horses, and can enjoy the absolute security that comes with this complete-package service. Fee: set fee per horse
