Fillies bring the magic at National Yearling Sale

We ended the National Sale Series in fine style at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale last week when purchasing three lovely yearlings.

My first purchase of the week was a Dundeel filly bought with Matt Cumani Racing for $80,000. Purchased from the promising up-and-coming Fernrigg Farm, the filly’s sire has been on fire this season and she has plenty of family class. All four of her unraced dam’s siblings won at a mile or less and her granddam is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Majestic Roi, who is also the dam of a champion miler. All indications are that she should have speed for the 2-year-old races but also improve as she ages.

Matt and I have had major successes together with Queensland Derby runner Declares War, 2-year-old Group 2-placed Akkadian and 2-year-old stakes winner Lady Naturaliste among them. Hopefully this filly finds their success on the track.

Spirit of Boom just keeps producing winners so I couldn’t leave this sale without one. I purchased a Spirit Of Boom filly from Lyndhurst Stud Farm for $115,000.

Her dam is the high-class Bel Esprit mare Monte Bella who had speed to spare and she’s backed up by a strong American family that has both 2-year-old and sprint form. The filly is the third foal from her dam with her 2-year-old full sister already placed in her only start. Her granddam is a half-sister to the very versatile Canadian Grade 3 winner With Flair who won both her starts at two and was able to succeed from six furlongs to 1 ¼ miles. This filly definitely has the class behind her to be a versatile runner.

She showed a lot of quality from the second she walked out of her box and really caught my attention. As a September foal by a proven 2-year-old sire, we should see her early and I expect her sister will also give her a nice update in the coming months before she hits the track.

Overall, I’m happy with the group of yearlings I purchased this year and think this was the perfect way to end the yearling sale season. I’m headed down to Melbourne this week for the Inglis Great Southern Sale so if you’re interested in buying a horse with Boomer Bloodstock please get in touch.
